I’m Kristal Mtaza-Lyons a proud Houstonian, community leader, entrepreneur, and advocate dedicated to building a stronger, smarter, and safer Houston. My journey has been rooted in service, innovation, and bringing people together to create opportunities that uplift families, empower youth, and strengthen our neighborhoods.
As the Executive Director & Founder of Houston Strong Children Services and the visionary behind the Strong SMART Innovation Center, I’ve led initiatives focused on workforce development, housing, public safety, and equitable access to resources. My work has connected thousands of families to life-changing services, fostered innovation, and created pathways for young people to succeed in emerging industries.
Now, I’m running for Houston City Council At-Large Position 4 because our city deserves leadership that puts people over politics. I believe in solutions, not slogans, and I’m committed to tackling the challenges Houstonians face every day:

Vision & Values
Why Kristal is Running as a Write-In Candidate
I chose to run as a write-in candidate because this campaign is about putting people over politics. While the traditional ballot process did not reflect the voices and priorities of everyday Houstonians, I refused to let technicalities or political gatekeeping stop me from showing up for our city.
This campaign is not backed by big money or special interests. It is fueled by community, innovation, and action. By running as a write-in, I am giving Houstonians a real choice and a leader who will listen, fight for affordable housing, safer communities, innovation in our economy, and smarter infrastructure.
I believe every Houstonian deserves representation that reflects our diverse city, our needs, and our future. Running as a write-in is not a setback. It is a statement:
